I'm building a new system and I was originally going to go with 6x 1GB sticks of RAM over the 3 sticks of 2GB. I remember years ago going with more sticks with less memory was a better choice due how much memory could be accessed... or something along those lines.

Is this still the case? Am I going to notice a difference if I choose the 1GB modules over the 2GB? Or, will it basically be the same?

I doubt you would notice any difference at all.

but with the 6x1 setup you will be putting a lot more stress on the memory controller and you will more Row To Row Delay.
So i would go with 3x2...

i think buying the 6x 1gb would be more expensive. So i would go with the 3x 2gb
