3 weeks ago i went out a brought a compaq, specs are
intell e2160
2gb of oem pc 6400
geforce 9500gt 512
now i wanted to start playing games and the sales guy told me i could play all the news yeah right, the game i like to play is left 4 dead, it would seems to run very slow, so i put that computer in the liveing room and went out a got another one,
The new specs are
amd X2 4800+ @2.5
3GB of ocz pc 6400
evag geforce 9800gtx superclocked 512 gddr3
i can play left 4 dead at max settings but the fram rate never seems to over 60, with action about 40 max action about 29-40
is there something wrong with my computer is the cpu not fast enough of video card i was told that the 9800gtx superclocked was good enough for any game.
i dont think any one gets more then 60fps, i have been looking around people with quad cores cpu and sli cards don't go over 60fps, it's locked in like doom was i am told, can i play crysis
How are you measuring your FPS ? You can get way over 60 i have seen reviews with benchies giving 100+
I know you say you dont have v-sync on so try upping your refresh rate to 70/72/75 would be normal options and see what happens
I can tell you that the 4800X2 will not push a 9800GTX anywhere close to it's full potential. Bad choice at this point in time, pretty outdated processor for new system that you want to game with.
If you want to game, and want to game at hardcore speed/high detail level, you will do much better by building yourself and leave the Prebuilt Compaq's, Gateway's, HP's and Dell's to standard home/office users.
What you have paid for these 2 systems you could have done way, way, way better.
you know why?(im assuming ur using an lcd monitor, a mainstream lcd monitor)
because youre monitor's refresh rate is only 60hz!!! meaning it can only display up to 60 fps. if you have a 120hz monitor, then it will display more than 60 fps w/ that setup.
^That is why you have the option to disable verticle sync, to override this.
And I believe the OP said he has it disabled, so that cannot be the issue, silly
