In terms of raw performance the Kingston holds the edge. In terms of capacity the Velicoraptor is more economical. Random seek times puts the Kingston out in front but in terms of real world computing the Velicoraptor provides decent performance and reasonable capacity for the price. I personally run Velicoraptors and have no complaints.

In terms of performance, the Velociraptor is between a standard HDD (slow-ish) and and SSD (fast). And it's closer to the standard HDD than the SSD.

SSDs have access times that are up to 100X faster than a standard hard drive, and probably about 50X faster than a Velociraptor.

The transfer rates are also faster, but not by nearly as much.

The Kingston may not be that good compared to other SSDs, but it's a helluva lot faster than any HDD.
