I was wondering if a gtx 260 is overkill for a 17inch monitor..

because i intend on buying the vendetta 92mm to oc my e8400 and then pc power and cooling 610w and a evga gtx 260 for gaming

albeit i only run at 1440x900 resolution but i run maxed graphics.

i intend in getting a new monitor sometime in november though..i guess so hum opinions?

Could be "a bit" overkill for now, but you could always crank-up AA/AF to give it a good run. You don't have many other options; you could always look at a ATI 4850.

I say go for it,
Running High Settings there are games out there you still wont be able to properly MAX out.
I ran Far Cry 2 @1024x768 with a HD3850 (yes i know its not in the same league) while doing some benchmark testing and it made it lock up and crashed the system. I would have thought that at that res it would have at least run it even if the FPS was low but no it wouldnt touch it on high settings.
Thats what im basing my opinion that 1440x900 with a 260 isnt total overkill.

For most games, it will be a bit of overkill even with the maximum graphics. Though, there are a few games, such as far cry 2, crysis, and stalker: clear sky, that will make your gtx 260 work even at such a "low" resolution. If you play any titles like this, a gtx 260 would be a good choice.

If you play less demanding games, you could get by with less, but depending on how often you upgrade your GPU, you might get stuck with an underpowered GPU for the new monitor.

It really could go either way. If I had to give a suggestion, I'd say get the gtx 260. Prices are low and when it comes to graphics power: Much better to have more than you need, than to need more than you have ;)

Overkill.

But a keeper if you don't intend on upgrading for the next 3 or 4 years.

If you plan on jumping to a DX11 card within a year or two, then you're wasting your money on a GTX 260.
