Nice OC...I think your RAM could have been left at 1600.....Set the multi on up to like...Hell with that MOBO, I would say x21...the FSB could be played with a little if your RAM would allow for it say like FSB 205 maybe even 210....RAM would go up to 1640 MHz or 1680MHz ...you have already got the RAM voltage for it.....Just my two cents...BTW you would for sure have to push your voltage up on the CPU of course due to the fact that the CPU clocks are going to be on up there to the 4.3-4.4 range

Thanks for the compliment. Ram i will try to OC a little bit, as my MoBo can handle up to 1800 i believe. i will just choose the next step up as it is in the 1700s. For some reason, the multiplier is giving me temps way past what my cooler can handle, and with my multiplier up, i am getting a long, short, short error code on post if i go below 216 FSB. It could be me, but i am happy with what i got out of this for now. I have been OC'ing for 2 weeks now, a total of 4 days with this chip, and i would rather learn first, than cry later. I want to thank all those who have posted previously on this thread. I have learned a great deal from you all! Also, 4RYAN9 helped tremendously through private chat and previous threads.

set your RAM to 1600 and FSB 200... your multi to x21...that would be an easier and more stable OC for you....the reason for the problem you are having below 216 MHz sounds like to me your RAM is being pushed to hard....... that would give you 1600 RAM at 4.2 GHz no sweat...BTW your vcore is gonna have to be upped for sure 1.404v just seems really low to me...I reached stability around 1.54v...but not all chips are created equal...So you might have a "magic" chip

The 8ghz is by only running 2 cores. So it's a pretty worthless test but it is good marketing.

Good marketing for who the guy that has the money, access, location, and know-how to use liquid helium :heink:  and still only two cores....The 5 GHz on air sounds nice though if thats all cores stable that is..keep in mind that is an x-chip so it is a bit on the "special side" too :D

I think I got a good one, this has been Prime 95 stable for over 24 hours.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE @ 3.901 GHz
4GB OCZ Reapr DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24
Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer 120
Asus M4A89TD Pro/USB3
Asus HD4870DK 512MB
Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD (System Drive)
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB (Storage)

And the best part...

This is at stock voltage, overclocked with the multiplier only! The highest temp that I've seen in Intel burn test is 62C. Idle is around 42C, with most gaming loads (GTAIV) bringing the temp up to around 56C. If I really wanted to, I could probably get more out of the chip as it booted Win 7 at 4.0 GHz, however it was not stable enough to run burn test, and for longevity I figured keeping the chip @ stock voltage was a good plan, as the last Athelon that I over volted eventually broke down after about 2 years of use.

Cleaned out the cooler, swapped the fan for one of my Antec 3 speed case fans (stock cooler fan died :( ) and set the Antec fan on "HI"

Ok, I've got a few questions...

#1: I placed a Prime95 result for my 1090T overclocked to 4.0Ghz and it's not on the stable list yet. (This was weeks' ago.)

#2: If I'm running a Minecraft server with the 955BE overclocked to 4.013Ghz, does that count? It's been running for a month with zero crashes.

P.S. I have several computers that I overclock.

Work in progress, stable so far is this:

1- The rules for OC stable are this:

CPU:8120FX
Name: Noob2222
Stepping:
Frequency: 4407Mhz/5022Mhz turbo (yep, I didn't disable turbo core)
ref*multi: 205*21.5/ 24.5turbo
CPU voltage: 1.2 to 1.4125 (+0.050 in the bios so 1.25 to 1.46, wich is dependent on current speeds)
CPU-NB: stock
nb frequency: stock
NB volts: 1.2
RAM: 4GB 1912Mhz DDR3 8-9-8-24-1T @ 1.60V (G.Skill RipJaws X 1866)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD3
Cooling: XSPC RX240/V3 (water)
OS: 7 64-bit
Temps are 45C at 4.4ghz (all 8) and peak at 64C at 5.4 ghz single core testing. (not core 3, see below) and a whopping 23C at idle.

Quote:
The stability test can be do it with 2 hours on any of this progmras: Prime95, LinX, OCCT or y-cruncher in stress test mode*

What about "AMD overdrive" stability test. It does calculations on the integer, fpu and a generic calc test.

So far, haven't had a whole lot of time with it but this cpu can scream. Unfortunately due to being lower binned cpu, I have an unstable core 3 above 5 ghz or over 210mhz NB and gigabyte removed thier "cpu core control center" so I currently cannot disable core 3 and run 7cores. All other cores so far can push 5.2-5.4 ghz single thread testing with AMD Overdrive.

I will add screenshots in when I get time to play with it this weekend and figure out how far I can push it without breaking 50C all 8 cores. Im having fun using it instead of putting a lot of time on benchmarks currently.

Some cores are having problems with high frequency /core 3 and core 5). AMD Overdrive isn't an stability test for a simple reason: It's made for the same company that do the CPU and while you CPU can be stable with that test, with any of the mentioned in the 1st page can have BSoD, specially with y-cruncher.

I'm still running some stability tests, ganna start Prime95 here shortly. I ran WEI with 1.325v on the core (Default Vcore) and it BSODed so I uped it a hair to 1.375v and ran it again and 3DMark06 and it passed both just fine so I'm in the ballpark as someone said in another thread.

If there's any improvements I need to do let me know as I'm still fairly new to OCing (at least at this magnitude lol) :D

An update to my last post.

I tested with P95 with my Vcore at the stated v1.375 lol well after about 15 seconds I got a BSOD so I upped the Vcore to V1.4 then ran P95 again, I goto to the 12-13th test and again another BSOD so I upped the Vcore to v1.4125 and that seemed to hit the mark. I ran P95 with the small FFT option for almost 2 1/2 hours with no issue :)  . My Vcore was all I changed :D  .

Isn't the ES in the CPUz Windows for Engineering Sample??
If it is, you're either very lucky or very unlucky. That chip, if it's an ES can do a lot more than what you may have tried until now, so go ahead and explore...... :)  Lucky you IMO.

If it is an ES chip I'd say push it to a *Truely* stable OC and keep it there and use it to your advantage :p , I'm happy with my 955BE at 4GHz but once I get my hands on a new FX (Preferably the FX-8170 @ 3.9GHz) I'm OCing it to 4.5GHz or greater :p  too many ppl underestimate the FX's cause of software/benches that don't utilize the new architecture and features of the FX to its fullest potential.

Cooling: XSPC RX240/V3 (water) 4x low speed fans
OS: 7 64-bit

This oc was for achieving low 50C max, to go much higher, I had to push the voltage up considerably to 1.48 to achieve 4.8ghz, wich raised the temps above 60C. Core 3 problematic for stability testing, wich was expected since this is a lower binned cpu, 4.4ghz from 3.1 is still good.
My temps after 3 hrs of testing peaked at 52C.

Starting up (after playing some games, temps somewhat stabilized already)

Finished - had to go to work so I stopped it and took the screenshot after cooldown

Not sure why CPU-Z shows these as (ES), this one was purchased from newegg.
