Im helping someone build a computer and i know im going to put a HD 4870 1Gb in it. The only problem is that he wants a quite pc. Does anyone have any experience with a silent one? Silent WITH the stock coolers that come with the card, not an aftermarket cooler or watercooling.
Thx :na:

Euphoria, the one you listed, the cooler seems kinda small compared to others ive seen, im kinda worried about the heat, does it ever get too hot or does it run fine.

Check out the HD4870s with the aftermarket type coolers on them. If they use a 2 wire fan basically the fan will run at a preset speed. If they use a 4 wire fan you can adjust the fan speed with Rivatuner or plug it into the motherboard at a sysfan socket and control it from the BIOS. Or a 3 pin fan can easily be controlled with any fan controller. For example the Gigabyte 4870 1GB uses a Zalman fan with a 2 wire fan.

The MSI 4870 1 GB uses a 4 wire fan

Powercolor uses a 3 pin fan.

You can hardwire any fan into a zalman type fan controller and use the controller to regulate fan speed. It doesn't make it silent, but it does allow you to keep the fan running slower and quieter ....maybe at the expense of high temperatures though.

lol woops
I was actually going to suggest the NZXT Whisper, but any case that is aimed at making your computer silent is a great choice.
