Connectine a desktop computer to a laptop in order to retrieve documents from th

Hello,
I need to know how to connect a stand alone desktop computer (which still works but I'm getting rid of, and is not connected to monitor, keyboard etc now) to a laptop so that I can save stuff from the old desktop to an external drive. Please advise on the easiest way-am not really v. technical! Thanks

Easiest way I can think of is to hook it up to a monitor and keyboard and use a network to move the files over. Either the switch in your router or use a crossover cable.

this external drive, can you describe it? does it connect via usb? does the old desktop not have USB?

Most old computers will have a USB, unless it is over 15yrs old it may not.
