Cd-rom for Dell 4550

I have a Dell 4550 and the original cd-rom (read, write) stopped working (stopped spinning actually). I want to replace the cd-rom with something compatable. The local Best Buy sales guy (God help me) told me a HP 1140 would work nicely - and suprise - it doesn't.
Does anyone know a cd-rom, read write unit that works for the Dell 4550? Thanks!
