I would like to know from people who have the UD5 and 965, what settings they did in the bios??

I have tried several things, but I am only able to get to 3.9 and still below 40 degrees, so somethings isn't right what I am doing. But please post any info that you might have.

I was able to get 3.9 only by setting multiplier to 19.5 and the Frequency at 200, I am going to attempt
to use a lower multiplier and higher frequency, I have yet to be able to change the Frequency with out it
crashing or being unstable!

While a motherboard may be a limiting factor in the overclock-ability of a chip, in the end, even with the most capable of MoBos, a chips ultimate limit will be decided by the chip itself. You have a great Mobo, but the 965 is NOT guaranteed to be a 4.0ghz chip, though some can do it 24/7. A max stable 24/7 OC of 3.9ghz is not outside of the norm for even the c3 stepping 965s.

It is entirely possible that you have hit the ceiling for what your specific chip can do, and if that is the case, no MoBo will get you higher. Considering that your motherboard is a very capable and reliable unit, that would be my assessment of the situation.

I am sorry that I am commenting and don't have the UD5, but my 890GPA-UD3H can do 4.0ghz just fine for day to day use or gaming, but won't pass 3.9ghz for hardcore stability testing. Take that for what you may.

Well she runs 3.9, and my temps barely fluctuated, it only increased about 3 degrees in the cpu but no where else!
Then I cranked my HT Link to 2200 along with the other thing.

But All i did was higher my multiplier and I have been doing my normal things all day at 3.9, and she is just fine. I don't know about prime95, so I might make a profile for 3.9 and a profile for 3.6!

I literally could not change the BUS at all, not even one, even if my multiplier was 16!
Well I am not complaining about not doing 4.0, I just though since my temps were so low I thought
I would have plenty of room for higher. But if I can run 3.9 all day when ever I like then that aint bad, however I will probably not keep it that high when I play Tango Down and in the Future DIABLO 3!

My hottest temp is 40 degree and thats my GPU.
I cranked my memory and gpu up, and they made my temps rise more than an OC at 3.9!

I actually chose the 965 cuz of next year I heard the UD5 and AM3 will be compatilbe with the new AM4(Fusion or Bulldozer or whatever it is.) I figured if I went cheap with the 965 I would save my 150$ for
a future chip!!

HT link has never shown to be an effective OC parameter for myself in my benching and gaming. NB on the otherhand has a much more effective presence. In benching (3dmark variants and gaming) I have run my NB as high as 2800mhz, with lower CPU clocks in the 3.6-3.8 range and it would outscore my 4.0ghz benches with 2000 or 2200 mhz on the NB.

Since I was never able to measure an increase in performance with HT Link OC, I keep it at 2000 for stability, since pushing it up has only introduced instability with no appreciable gains.

My daily sweetspot is running 3.875ghz on the cpu using a 250fsb with a 15.5 CPU multi, HT link at x8 or 1.6ghz in bios( 2.0ghz effective), and NB at 10x for 2500. This is rock solid when stress testing, and performs at or better than even 4.2ghz benching with a 2000mhz NB.

My best single shot benches are 4.3ghz CPU, 2600NB, and 2000HT, but that setup is in no conceivable way to be considered stable for anything more than short bench runs.

My chip is middle of the pack as far as voltage is concerned. I can run 3.8ghz daily with 1.41v, but need 1.5v for 4.0, and 1.55v for 4.3ghz to complete benches. 3.6ghz can run at 1.325v and on warmer days will be my setup as it runs much better temp-wise at those settings.

Well I finally got her to hit 4.0!

I kept my Bios the same, like 19.5x200, then I booted up and kept my voltages on auto!

So with in EasyTuner6 I went in and boosted my my clocks, I changed it to 19.5x205 and
kept the HT link at 2200 and the NB 2200.

I was able to accomplish a lot within Easytuner6, once in easytuner I was able to up my freq. of my cpu. But I had to up my voltage to a solid 4.9!

Then I was able to push my gpu clock to 960 and memory clock to 1350!
Temps are CPU=40 System=34 GPU=41

Thanks for the info, I am going to do some tests and benchs tomorrow! I will try your Technique!

Thanks for the idea I'm going to try this!!
I'm curious what volts do you run the Nb, and ht link at for this? Ht link a bit lower I bet.
