Hi all!

Just wasted couple of hours to find out at the that power supply is acting up / bad CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W.
First with my new build it won't power on at all, LEDs flash for a second and fans start to spin and it shuts off.
Then I put the same power supply to my other computer it starts to boot and then it dies.
I've installed power supply from my other computer and it works perfect (Antec NeoHE 550 Watt)
Anyway, I need new PS and would like to stay with Antec anywhere between $70 and $100. Newegg is my store since I'll be calling them tomorrow and returning Corsair.

Any help is appreciated!

Here's my new setup:

Any product has a chance of getting a bad one, even the very best brands. I would give that PSU another chance, as it is a very good PSU if you get a good one that isn't DOA.

That being said, you don't need that much power anyways, and an Antec EA430 would do fine for your current setup. However if you want the option of upgrading the GPU in the future, then you can go with the Antec EA650. But if it was me I would give that corsair another chance.

Thanks for the reply!

Its really tempting, you know how it is once you get burned.
Could it be that Corsair PS is not "compatible" with my setup?
So, if I had other choice it would be Antec EA430?
430 watts seems not enough for Q8300, should I go at least 500W?
This build is for a friend, I know for sure he won't be upgrading GPU.

The 430w will be enough, but if you want more headroom then look at the 650w. That PSU is compatible, thats not the problem, the PSU is faulty.

Your processor doesn't pull much energy, the GPU is usually the most power hungry component of a system, and that one you have is on the lightweight end of GPU's. A GTX 295 pulls 300w maximum, that has 2 GPU's in it that both pull probably twice the wattage that GPU needs. A system using an i7 and gtx 295 with fans and 2 hdd's and other accessories will not pull more than 450w at full load. I'd be surprised if that one you have there pulls more than 200w, it definitely won't need more than 250w. That being said, you always want your PSU to be running at less than full load, ideally less than 70% when its at max, so 430w is about right for that setup.

My son has that same PSU on the same board with an E7200 and BFG 9800GTX.
Not a single issue! The most stable voltage levels I've seen in a power supply!
5 year warranty...just get another 550VX......

Thanks xthekidx for the detailed explanation!

I'll bite and order same new PS (Corsair CMPSU-550VX).
Since johnnyq1233 said that it worked with same MB, it must be my bad luck, lets see see if 2nd time is charm :)
