I have time to wait, but looking for my next upgrade
I have been researching barebone kits and piece by piece componets
I'm petty sure I don't need dx 10 just yet and I am happy with dx9c so far.
I love windows xp as I have come from windows 95
I'm not willing to goto vista as I would end up kicking my puter across the room!
So any recomedations are welcome.

What do you need the new pc to do?
I don't think any worthwhile upgrade is feasible.
Plan on building new.

Don't worry about dx9/10/11. Things are forward and backwards compatible, and today it does not mean much.

You do know that XP support will expire, perhaps later than sooner?

For an interesting insight as to why some users don't like vista, google " mojave experiment"

there is nothing wrong with xp other than an unwillingness to support it. I do'nt want this post to be about vista compared to xp

Any new build will run with xp sp3 even the newest equipment.
But, eventually you'll have to venture into the land of win7 or vista with dx10/11.
If you're a gamer and have newer games or looking to play the newest games then dx10/11 will drop your jaw on the floor!
If you're only going to surf, watch movies, do some word processing or chatting, etc. then you don't need anything big at all.
Let us know what this machine is supposed to do!

So you are looking to upgrade you whole system?
What is your budget?
And what is the purpose of the system you want? (e.g. gaming, HTPC, business)

with dx10 brings dynamic lighting which isnt enough for me to spend 4 benjamins or more having to upgrade to vista os.. so basically I'm a gamer with company of heros and supreme commander rts gamer want ddr2.. easy.... not an overclocker but can easiily go there... more of a question of video card than anything else

Honestly, I would wait until the replacements for the 4830s come out. It will use less power, have better performance, and cost less. Until then though, I would look for some deals and gather up the parts 1 at a time. That way you can get the best deals, and not have to spend 4 Benjamin Franklins.:D
