can i upgrade my amd x2 6000 to a phenom ii 940/955 without having to replace my motherboard. i cant tell you what mobo i have because i dont have access to my computer right now. if a x2 6000 works then a phenom ii should work as well shouldn't it?
Sorry you have to know the manufacturer and model number of the motherboard if the Phenom II 940 or 955 is supported or not.Without that information no one can help you.If you find out that those new CPU's are supported you most likely will have to update your BIOS.
I had a X2 6000 but it was a AM2 only board from 2 years ago and had to buy a new MB with my new 955. Got the MSI 790fx gd70 and very happy. Running 4.2 ghz and stable. Loving every min of it!

I'm running a 940 x4 on a 3 year old AM2 board with the 590 chipset. Actually upgraded from a 6000 x2 also. Your mileage may vary of course but I would say yes.
4.2 is pretty rare for the PH2's, very nice solier.
