Replacement Mobo

Last response: in Motherboards
Share

Hello, I have a Gateway GT5028 with a defective Foxconn C51GU01 motherboard in it. Unfourtanetly this is a BTX form factor board with an AMD socket so replacements are very hard to find and not to mention very expensive($200 +)! So my plan of attack is to get an ATX form factor board and a new case to house it. I don't know very much about motherboards though so I have come here for help.

Here are my computer specs:
AMD 64 X2 3800+
1024 DDR dual channel memory
250 GB HDD
300 watt power supply
-anything i plug into pci slot wont work on motherboard

So I was wondering if maybe I could just take all the parts from the Foxconn motherboard and dump them on an Asus A8V?

Heres Foxconn board specs:
http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/FIC/105552/105552sp23.shtml

And Asus board specs: http://techreport.com/articles.x/7270/1

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :hello:

Make sure your new case supports an atx board, which is bigger than your old btx board. You may have to reinstall windows; some versions may give you a repair option; newer versions such as vista may ask you to format the drive. You can backup your files first with a program such as norton ghost or the vista backup program. 3b tech has some asrock 939 boards starting at $26 shipped if interested.

You want to downgrade from an nVidia chipset to a VIA chipset?

socket 939 - not really a socket worth chasing

also your old motherboard has decent integrated video, your new motherboard listed has none and only has an agp slot - OLD!

perhaps a system overhaul is in order ;)
