I have a quad core Q6600 processor running on a Gigabyte S series board with 4 Gb of memory. I am using a geforce 9500 GT 512 mb DDR2. My question is, can I run a newer DDR3 GPU?
Yes. If you were concerned about the fact that your mobo runs DDR2 and the card would run DDR3, there isn't an issue there. The memory used by the system is different than the memory used on a graphics card. There is no conflict.
the memory the video card uses is completely unrelated to the system ram. you could be running a GDDR5 card on a board that uses DDR1, or heck even SDRAM provided the motherboard has the appropriate pci-express connector.
