Hello all, I am running windows xp on my home computer and i was connected to the internet one night and the next day my connection was gone. Under my LAN it states acquiring network address and is showing my ip address as all zeros. I have dsl service and an external modem through verizon. I have spent countless hours on the phone with verizon and dell and cannot get any help. Everything is connected correctly but I just don't know how to get it to read that ip so that I can get online again. It is a pain paying for an internet service that I cannot use. I am not very computer literate but I have tried a few things that I have read online form work. Is there anyone out ther who can walk me through trying something else?? Thanks in advance for your responses!

What happens when you type:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Is the Ethernet cable from the PC to the modem any good? Have you tried a different cable?

Also the command - ipconfig /all

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /all

Power off your modem.
Power up your modem and allow it to fully reboot.

Type the above three commands in a command prompt window.

The information in the window will tell you if you are receiving an IP address
and DNS addresses from the modem.
