Debug Assertion Failed! error

I have been getting this error box every time I try to
download an app to my Palm Desktop ever since I tried to
use a trial free demo called Butterfly from Ranosoft.com
to my Palm. I cannot delete the Butterfly program now. I
can no longer access my SSTV subscribed program (Updates
TV programs to my Palm).
I keep getting the following error message during my
Hotsync operation. I uninstalled and reinstalled it. nada.
The message that pops up says:
Microsoft Visuall C++ Debug Library...Debug Assertion
Failed...File: except. app...Line:23...see the Visual C++
documention on asserts."
I went to the MS website and do not know what to do since
I am not an advanced PC user. Has anyone encountered this
strange problem with 3rd party software downloads?
I emailed Microsoft, Ranosoft and SSTV - no help there.
I appreciate any advice
