is there such a thing as a four gig stick of ddr3
i am planning on putting it in a new core i7 system
the mobo has 6 ram slots and the specs say it can handle upto 24 Gb of ram and to do this you would need 6*4 gig sticks
i may not NEED but i WANT
and can u imagine how fast that machine would go with 24 gigs drr3 core i7 dual 1 Gb ati radeon gc ect.
Having MORE RAM does not make a system faster, unless it is being constricted by the OS or applications. Invest your money in FAST Ram and a water cooling kit. Then overclock the heck out of it, if speed is what you're looking for. 6 gbs is plenty for a gamer. Only 12 is need by professionals.
i dont wish to overclock my new system, and after seeing the price of the ram i might jst stick to 6 sticks of 2 Gb a total of 12 gigs
and im sure that in a few years time 12 gigs will be fully utilized by aplications also a 64-bit os (in this case windows 7 64-bit) should utilize most of that ram
There is little reason to use more then 4GBs in the comsumer space right now. I agree that 24 is a waste. Even 12 is to much. 6/8 might be usable, but even then most of the time you'll have a lot of RAM not being used.

Yes, you are right, in a few years 12 gigs will probably be used by many applications.
However, by then your i7 will be hopelessly outdated and you will have to uppgrade the whole rig anyways - if not done already.
If you are doing video editing 12 gigs is already getting outdated! I am running an AM2 6000+ with 8 gigs of ram and it takes 48 minutes to author 3 minutes of 1080p video. Adobe Premiere CS4 will address 32 gigs of ram, I will be going 24 gig very soon.
