I am getting a bit desperate so will resort to asking here for help.
I have suffered this problem a couple of times before but cannot get it fixed this time.
Basically, i was starting up a game and then my screen went blank. The problem is that everytime i get to the login screen the screen will go into standby mode and not wake up, I can log in while it is blank and windows will load but it will not wake up.
I have tried to restart in the last known good config but since windows boots up fine minus the blank screen don't think it does anything, i have also tried a system restore to no effect.
I have booted into safe mode and indeed am in it now but wiping the drivers from here and then restarting and reinstalling the drivers does nothing.
I must be doing something wrong but can't figure out what.
Anyone suffered the same problem and got a definate fix?

Sounds like could be something as simple as a bad monitor or cable. can you try it with a different monitor or different video card? Is it onboard video or a card?
UNINSTALL all ATI drivers. REBOOT Cancel any auto install/update drivers for your vidcard. Download/install new drivers. 9.3 is out, not sure why you're still using 8.whatever. REBOOT again again. Problem solved.

How many connections on your video card do you have? I had the same problem with my ATI card and I just plugged it into the other connector and have not had any problems with it since.
The game isn't the problem, have played it alot without issue.
Doormatderek, get some glasses.
Have tried plugging it into the other connect but again, due to it working fine for months now don't see that as the problem, definately driver related although thank you for the advice.

It could be a combo problem. Power setting issues, as in power states, seek issues on HD, DVI connects, and possibly ram. If theres seek issues, it may only show up using your gpu driver

Is it a possible incompatible resolution setting on your video card? I would boot into VGA mode, if that works, you can go into your ATI software and try hitting the revert to default settings.
Well, don't know what exactly the problem is but borrowed my dad's 17" POS LCD monitor which uses a vga connection and managed to get the drivers installed and the screen to display. Switched to my own and restarted and it is working touch wood.
Am away to re-install the drivers to make sure it isn't a fluke.
Possible something to do with the signal between the vid card and monitor as i had to enable low res video option to get the vga monitor to work for some reason.
Best part of a weekend to fix it, should have just tried out disco ducks suggestion from the start but still don't know why removing the drivers did not work.
Thanks for all the help and lets hope it doesn't happen again.
