get a new HDD, try the samsung F1 1TB 32MB and also try enabling to boot off of all cores.

Thanks,

How to enable to boot off of all cores?

^ turns out it only works in vista and 7 so you can't do it on XP.

Hi, guys, I am so sorry. I want to build a pc. As I have no interntion to oc or playgames, I try to get some advice as to what cpu to buy. phenom ll 940 or E8500. My only concern is how to get XP start faster. I also can't make up my mind between HD4350 or 8400GS.

^ out of both of those graphics cards and AMD integrated graphics will do just as well so there's not much point in wasting power.

a phenom II 940 will be faster in everyday tasks when you compare it against the e8500 because the 940 has more cores to run applications on.

to boot OS'es faster you need a fast hard drive not a faster cpu, so if you want it to boot up very fast then get a 60GB SSD however this will be quite expensive. If you want more space and a cheaper option then get a 1TB HDD which isn't made by hitachi or maxtor.

The chances are that a new HDD would be the cheapest upgrade and he would actually benefit from it in more than 1 way. but i agree with looking at the specs first :)
