have two matching cards, in slots one and three, which the user guide says will both do x16, but the second card in the catalyst software only shows the bus speed at x8. how do I get it to the full x16 speed?
thanks in advance

That really depends on your motherboard, as some of them only feature one x16 PCIe expansion slot. So it's possible that one card is running slower, bottlenecked by the max 8x support. Check your mobo's specs.

Here is what your board supports.
2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slots (at x16 or x8 mode)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slots (at x16 mode)
2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slots (at x8 mode)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (at x4 mode)
* True @ x16 3-Way SLI™ in slots 1, 3 and 5 when slots 2 and 4 are not occupied
You likely have the cards in the wrong 2 slots or your slots are not configured correctly in your BIOS. Read your manual.

yep... that was a pretty silly mistake... the second card was in the 4th slot, not the 3rd, i should have checked the label and not just thought it was another blue slot
