Can you boot to safe mode?
if so, go to start>run, type cmd then click ok. Type chkdsk /f
If you can't get into safemode then you need the win xp cd to boot from it and go to recovery console. Once in recovery console you can try the chkdsk /f option.
Maybe your last resort will be replacing the file that is located in system 32 with the one from your windows cd .(located in the i386 directory) Also from recovery console. But if there actually is a autochk in System 32 you should back it up. If, not just copy the one from the cd. If you go that way, let me know, and I'll tell you step by step.
