I am about to build my first computer as well. I have also added components to a PC but never built one from scratch. Although I believe the parts I picked are the right ones, I'm always open for input so here is a list of what I have picked so far for my new i7 system.

Case - Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower : 154.99

MoBo - EVGA LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX : 269.99

Video - EVGA GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 (448 x 2) bit GDDR3 : 529.99

Processor - Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core : 288.99

Memory - Patriot Viper 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) : 154.99

Hard Drive - Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s : 64.99

Operating System - Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit - 179.99

Power Supply - I'm going to use my current psu. Its a Rosewill 750W

Total Cost before S&H : 1643.93

Let me know what you guys think!

My two cents is getting a better higher quality PSU. People don't recommend Rosewill power supplies. You don't want to combine high dollar components with a low quality PSU because there is a chance that the psu could die and take your components with it. Quality brands = Corsair or PC Power and Cooling or use this website to find other quality brands.

Also if you ever SLI in the future 750W won't cut it just a little heads up if you didn't know

Also I would suggest this hdd Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB

Hope this helps some.

+1 to drippyfausett's comments. Using a Rosewill PSU on that nice system should be a crime.

Seagate is currently having major problems with their 7200.11 drives. It's best to avoid them until they get things sorted out. The HD mentioned above is about as good as it gets for a 7200RPM drive.

Do you really need Vista Ultimate? Home Premium works fine for most people. Here's a link to the comparison of the different Vista versions:

Here's what I'd suggest:

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders - OEM

I plan on getting a better PSU in the future, but I'm not exactly made of money so I was hoping my current PSU would do the job until I do get a better one. I guess what i'm asking is, will my Rosewill PSU do the job until I'm able to get another PSU?

LOL - You're worried about saving a buck on the PSU, but you're willing to get Vista Ultimate, an Antec 1200, and GTX 295? How long were you planning on using that POS Rosewill for? Any amount it's in that nice rig is too long. I'd do like was suggested above and get Vista Home Premium and use the $80 saved toward a quality PSU. I'd get one of these:

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006&Tpk=750tx $114.99 - $25 MIR

PC Power & Cooling S75CF 750W EPS12V SLI NVIDIA SLI Certified (Dual 8800 GTX and below) CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341011 $109.99 - $20 MIR

If you still can't swing it, I'd get an Antec 900 instead. The PSU is the one piece to not try to save a buck on. When it goes out, there's a good chance it will take other hardware with it. I'd much rather go from the Antec 1200 to the Antec 900 than chance that system to a Rosewill PSU.

OK, one other question. Right after I put that last post in, I've been looking on newegg for other PSU's! If for some reason, I ever do decide to SLI another 295 card, how many watts should my PSU have?

You guys know more than me for sure, but you're telling me that 750 Watts would be enough to Quad SLI 2 GTX295 cards? I remember reading somewhere that just one needed 680 watts of system power! Not trying to say that you're wrong, I just want to know for sure, cuz eventually I will Quad SLI these cards and I don't want to get a PSU that won't be able to handle it.

^Yes 750W is plenty for SLI, but not Quad. Notice, that the actual power output for the above two PSUs listed (PC Power 750 % 750TX) are actually more than 800W. The +12 rail alone on the 750TX delivers 720W.

You see, the 680W requirement (This is the PEAK Wattage) is mostly for low quality PSUs, as when you tend to load them up, they crash and burn (literally). Most low quality manufactures tend to advertise their PSU based on Peak Wattage/output. And if some one is to load up one of those PSUs to advertised value they will most likely blow up.

Here is a good website to check for PSU reviews:
