I seem to be missing all capabilities to have wireless connection, though I have a PCMCIA card. There is no wireless icon, and the card is up-to-date on drivers.

The only reason it would not be showing is because
1. Its not Installed correctly
2. There is a incorrect or out of date driver installed

Wireless Zero Configuration service enabled?

Start>Run>Services.msc>Wireless Zero Configuration>Automatic

and Start if it isn't already running.

Also, Start>Control Panel>Network Connections>(Right-Click your aircard)>Enabled.
