9800GT will work on the ASUS P5KPL-AM because PCI-E 2.0 is backward compatible with PCI-E 1.0.
But it wont work on the Foxconn model since the foxconn model has APG slot and 9800GT is a PCI-E card.

Nope the Foxconn has a PCIE slot and in fact am using a 8400GS PCIE card in it. Just the 9800GT doesn't work yet I had it tested by the dealers and it works. Will try it in the Asus board but am told the 9800GT needs a PCIE2 card becuase it requires power directly from MB since the 9800GT I have does not have any additional separate pwoer connectors.
Thanks man used the Asus board and 9800GT works perfectly. What is also different is that I used a 600W PSU so maybe that's teh difference. However, I think the Foxconn was teh problem depsite it being the latest BIOS update according to Foxconn live update.
Thanks for the assistance and the mystery remains why it did not work but who cares, cost me a new MB and chassiss case and PSU but now I am in action.
