I own a intel duo core (2.0GHz) processor based CPU with 1GB RAM and a MSI 9500GT graphics card.

I wanted to use the CPU for 3dsmax
and other such modelling/animation works.
However i have noticed that the system tends to hang whenever the complexity of the project increases. Also in most cases a simple movement of an object takes 20-30secs just to be processed.
Also all the time the processor activity shoots up to 60%.

I want to know if its the lack of processing power from the processor that may be causing this issue.
If so please advice me of a processor and motherboard suitable for the uses mentioned.

You need more RAM. 1GB is pretty small these days.

I second the RAM, you can get a good 2x2GB set for $50 or less.

$49 G.Skill DDR2 800 2x2GB (there are cheaper, but G.Skill is very good)

I third the RAM as the problem for the hangs. Next time you run 3dsMax, go to the Task Manager and check the memory usage.

But i checked & the RAM usage is very low.
Its just the processor that shoots up.

Is the processor good for slightly complex projects in 3dsmax?

Its so so. I'm not sure what C2D runs at 2GHz. The 6400 was close, but it was 2.1something. (perhaps one of the 4xxx chips?) 1GB of ram is pretty small for that use. 4GBs (or ~3.2GBs with 32bit windows) would probably help a bunch. Not sure why it would claim the usage was low, what did the swap file look like?

i apologize...its a duo core, not a core2duo...
Is that gud for 3dsmax?

Duo core?

Is that a Pentium D or Pentium Dual Core?

What?

So you have a "Pentium Dual Core"

right?

Get more RAM, preferably 1-2 more GB since you probably have a 32bit OS.

Then OC ur CPU.

I hate rebates because Corsair never gave me a rebate on my RAM. >_<
