How come moving the mouse in FPS games causes darkness?

Alright, so I have a Sony Bravia 42" 60hz 1080p hdtv. I have it hooked up to my computer, which has a 9800GX2, with all latest drivers. How come with all FPS games regardless it HDMI's enabled (Half Life 2, System Shock 2, Far Cry 2, Counter Strike: Source), standing still and moving the mouse will cause darkness, but moving and moving the mouse won't?

No idea, but how did you get System Shock 2 to run?
