My system:

* Apevia Xplorer Case
* Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33 mhz processor
* XFX 750i sli 1333 fsb motherboard
* 8gb (4x 2gb) OCZ 1000mhz overclocking RAM
* 850 watt COISAIR TX power supply
* Artic Cooling 7 heatsink
* 2 sli SPARKLE SX96GT2048D2-HP GeForce 9600 GT 2GB 256-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Cards (4gb total)

The problem i am having is that my system runs perfect until I go to play games. When i am playing any graphic intense games the system will function fine for a minute or so and then freeze my whole system. I then have to restart and try again, getting the same results. I can take out one card and the games function normally. Any suggestions ?

now both cards freeze the computer while only one card is in.... while using games .... not sure why ???? i am able to return these cards and get my money back or get new ones but i wanna make sure that its the cause of the problem first

try it with 2 sticks of your memory out and tell me what happens. nvidia boards become problematic when they are that loaded down with RAM.

Roofus is on the right track with the ram. Its somehow related to that. You may also have to try different voltages, timing auto settings vs manufacture specs, etc;

i may try the differnt timing voltages or just send the cards back and get 1 gb cards and not even worry about it cause i need 8 gb of ram. Just wanted to see if there was a quick fix .... or if the cards are actually defective or what not

i know its not my psu cause i just bought it yesterday .... and prob not my cpu ... although, it could be needing more thermal compound ??? cpu overheat causing the system to freeze or are the cards the culperate ? seems to run better with one card but still having issues

Reply to tavernarijared

2 9600gt shouldn't overheat in sli they aren't normally dual slot cards but you should check the head maybe one had improperly set heatsink. Also have you tried playing games with both cards in and just turning off sli feature. Leave all the stuff in just turn off do you want sli.

else ram suggesion with 8 gigs is a good bet.

Run everything on auto or stock settings (CPU, RAM, and GPUs) and if that helps. If it doesn't, keep the stock settings and run it with one RAM stick at a time.

i am not sacrificing my ram to get it to work ... i will probly get another 1 gb 9600gt series card ... any thoughts ... want a cheap but good 1 or 2 gb sli card. also i returned one of the cards and will try using just one and see how it goes i also returned the 850 corsair and got a 650 watt ultra pro ... i believe i shold be able to run one card off 620 watts ... so that should work and if it does i will run one card at 2 gb . if not i am gunna throw 2 one gb cards and go sli ....

single 2 gb card functions perfect non sli .....returned one and am using a single card w 650 watt power supply and system functions ... think i will go non sli unless i experience any further issues

I've seen several posts concerning the XFX branded mobos and how shite they are, which is a shame as I have always liked their graphic cards. I feel your pain mate.

Reply to mousemonkey

No offense to the XFX card user but I agree with mousemonkey. I had 2 XFX cards in Sli a couple of years ago. I was watching web news at CNN and one of the cards blew, sounded like a small bomb. Needless to say, the brand is not welcome in my house anymore. Newegg was good about taking both cards back and I switched to EVGA.

sparkle cards 2gb work fine great for gaming .... 5.9 in vista testing .... highest ... it was a psu issue ... required 850 watt power supply and ultra pro x3 850 works great returned mine and got it today and both cards work perfect !!!!!!
