I'm researching for my first time build and could use some help. I've narrowed down my choice of motherboards to either ASUS or GIGABYTE. I'm debating on whether to get a motherboard with onboard video and then hold off on purchasing a video card for a short while - to see if I want a DX11 card and/or possibly get a cheaper price on cards currently available - or buy them at the same time.

What I want to know is if I'm getting an inferior product by selecting a motherboard with onboard video. Basically is it worth it if I intend on having a GPU?

its fine, i have the ASUS M4A78-E and it has the 790GX (HD3300 onboard), you can completely turn it off

i run a 4870 for my gaming purposes and when i use it as an htpc i use the onboard (basivally i take the 4870 out of the box for lan party's), im doing this until i buy another computer for the living room

Yes, you can get a mobo with video on board and them put a good GPU, but isn't advisable 'cause the performance of the mobo with video on board isn't that good how he mobo with out video. Remmenber that the GPU is a hardware that is specialist in video process, so the mobo only will have control of the memories, CPU and other componentes....i recommend you that buy a mobo with out video on board...
