What would happen if i chaged the volt of my i7-930 to 1.45?

I'm currently OC'ing my CPU, and i got it to 4.2ghz stable atm, tried 4.4 which is my goal. But it crashed, there is a very high possibility that its because the current 1.375v isn't enough.

My question is, is it safe to push the Voltage further up?

You could go high on the voltages, but you will be reducing CPU life by a few years. It shouldn't matter if you plan to upgrade in 3-4 years.

Is this a "work" (as in a computer you actually do work on) computer or just for fun? If it is the first, I'd say don't do it as the benefits would be small.

Also, what are your current load temps?

after 5 hours in Prime95, its 80c. Also, about the CPU lifetime decrease, if it removes a few years but still gives me 3-4 years of function, I would say its all worth it

4.0GHz is FAST enough, why do you want to go more higher?

Intel's recommended max for the chip is 1.45 volts - assuming you stay within the thermal envelope.

Personally, I wouldn't push an i7 past a load temp of 75 C.
