how does a q8400 stacks up against a q9400, p2 940?

does the 2 meg extra cache in q9400 really makes any difference?

also, does performance per clock of q8400/9400 makes a night and day difference as compared to p2 940?

For gaming, I doubt it. I haven't looked at any benchies, but I'm pretty sure 2mb L2 cache isn't going to matter much. The Q9400 is probably a bit faster in media en/transcoding, but thats what the cache is for.

Remember that the PhII basically brought AMD up to where Intel has been. The upper 940/955 are as strong as the higher Q95xx. If your looking at the 95xx, your probably better off getting an I7 however.

Odd, the exact opposite of what I expected. Games it matters a bit, 2-7% faster. "Productivity" apps is almost flat. I wonder why that is.
