No sound from front panel of computer

I have a intel DG33FB board and a Sonata III 500, I plugged the HDA plugfrom the front panel to the audio plug on the board and all I get is low level noise. I get sound out of the back of the computer. Am I missing something? Please help!!!

The front case pins don't always match the pins on the m/board setup.
Try to match the pinouts.

Thank you everone that has helped on this. I have got it going. Using a A/B switch from Radio Shack.
