Internet connection failing

Hi hope you can help, as i am not that computer literate but we have a problem with our internet connection where its fine for a while and works fine and then it just stops working - often if i leave it and come back to it. If i reset the local area connection it works again for a while then stops working again. Have tried my internet provider who have been most unhelpful and i wonder if maybe it is something wrong with the computer? Please offer any suggestions if you can - its been doing my head in for months now but we just keep just restarting computer to get it working again!!
