Microphone not working

I recently purchased the APEVIA X-TELSTAR model case, and an ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe mobo. Everything seemed ok, until I tried installing and using Ventrilo. I found out that my system wasn't detecting my headset microphone. It has a mute switch, but I made sure it's on. The system keeps muting the microphone. The headset speakers work, no problem there. I'm wondering if there is some issue with the SoundMAX HD software, or the front panel microphone jack. Anybody familiar with this issue?

Have you tried using the rear microphone jack? That would narrow things down somewhat.
