I recently posted about the 4870 2GB and ive now decided that i am going to spend up to $300 on a video card somewhat soon and ive narrowed it down to 3 different cards......
HD 4870 2GB = $260
HD 4850 X2 2GB = $280
GTX 280 1GB = $290
if u go with a HD4870, dont get the 2GB version, there really isnt any sense to that, the 4870 1GB version would be just fine (if ur thinking that 4850x2 has 2GB, its 2 1GB cards xfired which gives you a net of 1GB)
i would go with either the 4870 1GB or the gtx280 1GB, its up to you and if your motherboard has xfire or sli
i go with the 4870 1GB ($190) and save the other 100 and buy another down the line if your motherboard supports xfire
right now i only have a 19" 1440x900 and i know these cards are overkill for that monitor but i would consider getting a new monitor in order to take advantage of the video card
if i choose to stick with my 19" 1440x900 monitor, what do you suggest? I will play games like crysis, warhead, far cry 2, etc. and i want to be able to max them out at 1440x900

4870 512mb with that card you can max out settings and have nice amounts of AA and AF.
And if you wanna buy a 22" lcd the 4870 will be good at that res also.

you should just wait 2 weeks, there are two new cards under $300 coming, both with really good performance...
and they will make all the other cards go a little cheaper, so i would wait...
even at that low resolution i would get at least something like the 4870 1gb, gtx 280 or one of the new cards...
it's a lot of memory for this resolution, but games are becoming very demanding and u dont want to run out of memory in a year or two...
