I recently upgraded from 4GB to 8GB of G-Skill RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166) but am unsure of whether or not it's being recognized. I say this because both CPU-Z and the boot-up POST both see 8192 MB, but the system properties in XP sees 3.25 GB.

I ran Memtest to find 0 problems, but I did have to run 4 instances with each testing 687 MB. Rig as follows:

Q6600 G0, B Stepping, OC'd to 3.4 GHz on top of an Asus P5K Pro w/ Energy Processing Unit.
Bus speed at 425MHz with multiplier at 6 when idle (2.5GHz) and 8 when busy. Rated FSB at 1.7GHz.
Visiontek 4850, Samsung 700GB.

Another thing to point out is that the system properties is also indicating that my CPU is running at 3.83Ghz. :sarcastic:

Any help is greatly appreciated! :sol:

Upgrade to XP 64 or Vista 64 and your issue will be resolved. The 32-bit OS causes that 3.25 GB limitation.

i love all the people on this board who build their own systems and OC them

but can't figure out why their OS limits them to 3G

We love you too. And, perhaps you can explain why our OS's limit us?

Also, would Windows 7 solve this problem as well?

only a 64bit OS would be able to see more than 3.25GB mem

the OS is the limiter but because it was based on 32bits witch for memory is 2^32 = 4GB, though part of the 4GB is memory mapped i/o including part of the GPU memory

Great, thanks a lot, guys! Your help's appreciated.

One more question, why is it 2^32?

Yes, as long as you use 64bit.
