Is the NVidia 8800 Ultra capable of displaying most games today on a resolution of 1920 x 1200? I can get this card relatively cheap. Also, what about putting 2x of this card into an SLI configuration? My main question is, would it be more worth it to get something higher (more expensive) such as a 290, in terms of money and performance?

For less than 290$, you can get something much more powerful using much less power. Any G200 or the 4870 or 4890 will kill a ultra, and all under 290$, or do you mean a G260?

that card is really old now. most e-tailers don't even sell it anymore. Unless you have a really old card like a 7800GT, and if you can get it for real cheap, like well under $100, then buy it. but otherwise, a GTX260 would be plenty for 1920x1200 resolution. a 4870 1GB would also be good.

What are the rest of your specs? If you have an older system it might be the best way forward as you say its cheap but that card uses quite a lot of power, can run hot and be noisy under load.
You`ll probably have a hard time getting a second card, even off E-bay and I would not recommend doing that for any money.

The answer to your first question is no.

Two HD4830's are just as fast as two 8800 Ultras. You can pick up a PAIR of HD4830's for $150 after rebate. You dont need $290, lol.

Of course we dont know if your system is capable of running, keeping up with, or powering two of anything do we?

I suspected as much...I've been a "in the closet" gamer for years, only playing titles such as Starcraft and Call of duty 2.

Thanks for the advice. I should delve into current prices a little more deeper before considering outdated hardware.

You should tell us your system specs, including the power supply make and model so that we can further assist you in your decision.
