Getting info from a SATA drive

I just built a new computer and fitted it with a new 1 TB SATA hard drive. I want to get the info off an old 250 GB SATA hard drive, but when I add that hard drive (which still has a working version of windows xp) as a second drive, the computer tries to "boot" to that older version of windows. How can I temporarily add an SATA hard drive in such a way that it won't be seen as the boot disk?

Add the drive, then go into your bios. Set the boot drive back to the 1TB.

Thanks! That worked fine. Info is copied and HD is reformatted ready for next build.
