I have a gigabyte mobo, evga gtx 260, 4gb ram, 5 120mm case fans, PSU of 600w
When Imy pc is idle the temperature is 38c and when im playing COD the temp goes up to 100c!!
I just changed and put better fans, reapplied arctic 5, but nothing seems to work. I am using the stock heatsink though, could that be it? Thanks in advance.

Hi J

An aftermarket CPU cooler would be a good place to start. Please give us a little more to work with, CPU, case, the more the better. And provided the name and model# of those aftermarket case fans you just bought along with how many internal HDD's you have installed.

Intel Core 2 duo E7500
CM Storm, Scout PC case
I have 3 1200mm stock fans and 2 I just bought today http://tinyurl.com/ndjodg
The stock fans are thermaltake.
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
A-DATA 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
I have a 500gb western digital 7200 rpm

I am not that computer savvy, is there more I should say? Thanks starams5

I couldn't get that much info off the case fan link I wanted to see the specs. The higher the RPM the more heat you remove from the case. The heat is not removed as fast with lower RPM case fans resulting in higher CPU and chipset temps. Look at the specs when your shopping for a case fan, you want high RPM and low dBA (noise). I'll recommend a good aftermarket cooler:

If you don't mind taking the motherboard out see these:

If taking the motherboard out is not an option see this one:

When you apply the AS5 do you use the line method or spread the paste? For a C2D the best way is the line method per AS5 user manual. I'll also link you to a good CPU and heatsink cleaner.

CM Storm, Scout PC case. See your fan specs

Hope that helps

Although I prefer the Articlean that is very true about the alcohol. I use the coffee filter's as well, every time I mount a CPU I'm knocking on one of the neighbors door for a filter, I have permanent filter in my pot.

I dont think that those temperatures are normal. The stock intel cooler is capable of keeping the CPU under 70C' at default speed and voltages especially for a low-middle end model like the e7500
There must be something affecting the CPU temp such as:
1. You (or someone) has accidently rised the voltages in the BIOS. Try going to the bios and set voltage to auto
2. The heatsink is not properly seated. If you have re-seated the heatsink recently something might have gone wrong or if you moved the pc it might have slipped a bit out of place. (THe pushpins of the stock cooler aint the best)
3. The fan on the cooler is failing. Turn the pc on with the sidepanel off and see if the fan of the cpu cooler is spinning as it should.
4. DUST. Get a can of compressed air and clean the pc case. If your case does not have any filters for dust, that is really probable.

If nothing of these works, then the ambient temp (or case temp) is eaither too high or your chip is deffective and need to be RMA'd

If the casetemp is too high then it is probably one of the other components that is causing the problem and you should check the temperatures of all the components

Cheers

Well my HSF was not properly set in. While running prime95 prior to the adjustment, my temp would go easily to 100c in about 15sec, but now it stayed for about 1min at 85c then after the second test started, it began to climb and I stopped it at 93c. I have't done anything to the BIOS, except change the boot order. I think its my HSF, the rubber little teeth that sink in the mobo got bent so they probably don't grab on as well as they should; any thoughts?

I just finished playing some COD with my CPU not going over core0 74c and core1 75c
Does prime95 just push my cpu that much?

CoD doesn't push your CPU anywhere near where it could go. Prime95 is bulit for torture. So you'll definitely see a huge temperature difference between the two.

I think if your stock HSF has faulty pins, you'd do well to get an aftermarket unit. If you're moderately adventerous, you could get one that has a better bracket so you can forget about the pins altogether (which is what I would do).
