Hey everyone, need some of your expert help with this one. I built my first pc, and everything works great, except I think I can have better results with my network speed.

I'm using an Asus P4C800 Deluxe which has an integrated 3COM GigaBIT lan. Which is connected to a Linksys EZXS55W switch. Which is then in turn connected to my DSL modem.

The problem is, after I start my PC in the morning, I connect to the internet only at 100mbit speed. The kicker is, I USED to be connecting at 400mbit, but then reformatted/re-installed WinXP, and I'm now back to 100mbit.

Does anyone know how to get me back to 400mbit connection speed? I'm experience some intermitant lag while playing one of my favorite games. (Counter-Strike) But it goes away when I was connected at 400mbit.

Please help! Terrorist are running rampent in CS while I'm away! =)

either you named the wrong switch, or you are mistaken when you say you connected at 400 mbits. that switch is only 10/100 capable. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ [...] 4?v=glance
and if you think that 100 mbits vs 400 mbits is going to make a difference in a game like counterstrike you are sorowly mistaken.

The switch is correct, maybe winxp is wrong in telling me I connected at 400mbit? And you're absolutley correct that 100mbit isnt a bottleneck for CS.

But, the problem does exist, and the variable is connecting at 100 vs 400. And the lag I get is not constant, but intermittant. Maybe every 10 mins or so. Like clockwork you could say.

Any new thoughts?

I would love that conection... 400 Mb... sence a T1 operates at 1.544 Mb thats one hell of a DSL you have. ;) Even if you connect to the switch at 1Gb, the DSL is still ony 512K (or what ever yours happens to be).
Did you update all you drivers after reload?
A couple things you can do is test your TCP/IP settings <A HREF="http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php?DATA_OFFSET=40&TCP_Options_string=020405b401010402&IP_MTU_DISCOVER=1&WIN=64240&RWIN=64240&MSS=1460&SCALE=0&TTL=119&TSOPT=0&SACK_PERM=1&IP_TOS=0&IP=68.13.91.218×tamp=1083917167" target="_new">here</A> and your speed <A HREF="http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/" target="_new">here</A>.

wells first off, theres nothing wrong with your network. your connected at what you should be. perhaps you were connected via firewire before and thats why you remember seeing you were connected at 400 mbits.
