Sparkle Nvidia 8500 GT not working?

I just bought a PCi Sparkle GeForce 8500 GT, and it didn't work, so I downloaded a driver that took two hours. Now when I change so I am using my new video card, everything starts and works until Windows XP is finished loading and the screen goes black. Everything is on, and I waited for 5 minutes still nothing. When I change it back to my onboard video card everything works fine. I just bought this card and I want to be able to play games (on low settings I know) but I can't even start my computer using it. What do I do?

Which driver did you download?
Check your BIOS, some systems need you to change settings there to disable the onboard graphics.

You bought an 8500GT huh?

Boot into safe mode (by holding F8 when you boot after the post screen), and uninstall your display drivers. Make sure to also go into the device manager and remove any display adapters listed. Reboot, and if you have onboard video go into your BIOS screen and dissable it. Boot into windows and install your display drivers again.
