So, I bought 6 sticks of 2 gb OCZ 1600 mhz Dual channel sticks by accident. I meant to buy triple channel. What differences are there?

Are you saying that you got three 2GB x 2 kits instead of two 2GB x 3 kits? If so, I don't think there's any difference, other factors being equal.

i'm saying i bought ddr3 dual channel rams instead of ddr3 triple channel ram. Am i going to suffer a big performance loss?

Reply to ibewho

No. It's all the same. The motherboard chipset and placement of the memory in certain slots determines whether it runs in dual or tripple channel mode.

As long as the dimms are the same, it would be fine to run them in triple channel.

The main thing I would be concerned about is will it run the desired speeds at the voltages allowed by the x58. Most dual channel ram has been rated @ 1.8v+ and the limit of the x58 is 1.65.
