Hi

I have an Abit AN52V mobo (socket AM2, nForce 520) with the latest BIOS update which claims to support AM2+ CPUs with the 800MHz RAM. The question is whether it would be possible to sometime upgrade to Phebom II X2? Abit's page does not say anything about this issue. Now I have Athlon X2 5000+ @3GHz.

Tnanks for any help.

no,

1) abit went out of business a long time before P2 so I doubt they made any BIOS updates.

2) it's an am2 socket so HT speed will be lowered to 2GT/s vs 4GT/s+ of the am3 processors.

Thanks,

you are right, the HT speed will be reduced and the memory can work at most as a DDR2-800.

Though formally there is a BIOS update which supports the AM2+ (Phenom I's) CPUs, and it is claimed that the AM3's are backwards compatible with AM2+...

Anyway, I think you are right, and even if it works it will not give such a performance boost.

Thanks.
