Need help

I have a PC with a pentium4 3.2GHZ CPU an an asus P5AD2-E proactive AI motherboard, lately when ever i turn the PC it comes up with a message saying " system failure CPU test " so i turn the PC of and try a few more times eventually ( after a few tries ) the system boots up like normal with no issues. My question is what could be causing this issue and what do you recommend i do to remedy the situation?

P.s i brought the PC second hand so i cant return it to the store, also when i first brought it it started every time then one day it just stopped

Check CPU temperatures.
Is the heatsink on properly?
Does it have the correct bios version for the processor?
Is the CMOS battery worn out?

how do i check if the bios are up to date and if there not how do i update them?
Is the battery your talking about the one on the mobo?

It's most likely a bad CPU or faulty motherboard.

I doubt it's the PSU or BIOS.

It sounds like you couldn't even flash the BIOS if you wanted to. Unless you can swap out the motherboard or PSU it sounds like you are out of luck.

Clear the bios.
You might want to try another battery, before spending any money on it.

Remove the battery on the motherboard for 30 seconds.

When the power is off right? would i have to do anything to the bios after?

Power off. You need to set the boot order as a minimum and configure various items to you liking in the bios.

but the computer would work straight away when i put the battery back in, im not very advanced when it comes to computers so i wont be able to do any major operations in the bios.
