My motherboard will not post...do the first beep. It powers on, all the fans run, there is power going through it(even the motherboard led is on). But it won't post. My pc powerbutton light will turn the PC on, but won't turn the PC off. Also, the powerbutton light blinks like there is a short(when it should stay on continuesouly). I disonnected everything but the cpu and fan to rule out anything else. Is there a short in the PSU or is my motherboard going bad?

Here's a few points to note, not sure if they're directly related to your situation or not....

- you won't hear a beep unless you have a speaker connected to the motherboard

- pushing the power button won't turn the system off unless you hold it down for 4 seconds or more. This is to prevent accidental shutdown of the machine.

- the power light will blink if the system goes into "sleep" mode.

Sounds to me like the polarity on the in case wires may be reversed or misplaced. Make sure the wires attached to the case are in the right spot and if polarity is an issue you will have a + and - sign on the diagram. Refer to your motherboard installation guide.
