Just waiting on the PSU and VelociRaptor to arive, then i'll start the building. I also plan on getting a digital LCD screen to monitor how hot I'm running. With the build above and some extra fans installed in the case what do you think i'll be able to OC to without going to the extreme?

P.S. It is horrible having all your parts at home for your build, while waiting on the others to arive :( I didn't want to start building until I have everything...

Impressive build. You just need a 30" monitor and you're all set :)

Mind you, the P6T overclocks better than the P6T Deluxe and it's $50 less, but I guess it's OK anyway.

Yeah, that build should overclock very well.

very nice build, should oc just fine

I have a 24" monitor, but still no 30".

I just checked the shipping on my Power Supply and they still haven't sent it out yet :( I should of went through New Egg, except they don't have one listed atm :(

What do you think I'll be able to OC to, without going to the extreme?

Reply to nickhoff

not 100% sure cause i haven't oc'ed mine yet but i've seen on average around 3.4ish

Look at the reviews here:

There's even one who claims he got his i7 920 to 4GHz, using the P6T Deluxe and the same cooler as you. Mind you, that is the best air cooler so I'm not surprised it allowed a huge OC. OK, maybe he's luckier or more skilled than you and you'll only get 3.4 or 3.6 stable, but even that is still very good IMO.

I don't think the ram is good cause ur only able to run on it at 1333 mhz :D

Why am I only able to run it at 1333 mhz? I'm thinking your a bit confused. I should be able to OC it close to 2ghz.

Wouldn't the P6T Deluxe V2 be better, its more refined and is cheaper since it doesnt include a SAS Controller, its also is able to handle DDR3 2000 and 1866.

So i'd return that mobo for the V2 which has 1866 and 2000.
and the Noctua NH-U12P is a nice cooler.

@aevm where did you hear the deluxe isn't as good as the base P6T for overclocking? that is very new to me...

I have heard of a lot of people getting their i7's past 4ghz on the P6T Deluxe, but it depends mostly on your cooling solution. People with water cooling can go past 4ghz. With that TRUE I would say you can get to 3.8 at least.

Just curious to know... where are you buying your parts? i7 for 229$. That seems like a real good deal!

Bought the processor, mobo, and case, blueray, os, 1TB HD at Microcenter, instore pickup only.
Heatsink from heatsinkfactory.com
The GTX295 is sold out everywhere, but i managed to find zipzoomfly with some in stock so I over paid.
The Power Supply was sold out everywhere as well, but I got a good deal through Proadvantage.
I bought the memmory and velociraptor off New Egg.

Cool, thanks for the info

I have a question about your 2 hard drives. One is a lot faster then the other, how would you take advantage of the speed? Do you store only certain types of data on the faster on? If so, which data?

Thanks

You store apps and OS on the fast drive, music, pictures, movies on the slower drive.
