Hey all,

It's me again. Here to ask your opinions on what you would rather have for an LCD.
I'm looking specifically for a 24' LCD 1920x1200 used specifically for gaming. My budget is around $350, but if I could spend less I would def be wililng to. Just for a side note, i recently built an i7 pc. these are the specs on newegg: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=11217946

I have been told that BenQ's have great products, but the cheapest I have found is around $350...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014173

I found this Acer where prices have been fluctuating +/- $30... right now on the higher end of that range at $280: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009125

Is it worth even considering something above my price range? for example this dell i've been told is amazing, it is also $447... http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=04&kc=6W300&l=en&oc=2408wfp&s=bsd&dgc=BF&cid=7421&lid=197378&acd=10466193-1225267-u382527t1222127f0fp0c0s558

Questions/comments?

Thanks in advance!

If your willing to drop an inch and go up to 2048x1152 then there's a 23" monitor, can't remember the brand, but if you look around a bit then you should be able to find it for $200.

The Dell will look immensely better than the BenQ, although it has a slightly higher lag. Depending on how serious your gaming needs are, I'd go with the Dell, despite the slight (~20ms on the newer models) lag. The colors and contrast are phenomenal, and it just looks incredible (I have one). Especially at that price, it's well worth it, IMHO.

Just remember a good gaming lcd needs to have around 2ms latency, once you get in the action it makes all the difference.

BTW, beautiful monitor, i love BenQ, though im making a new build, my BenQ FP553 has lasted me a LONG time, damn 35ms...:(

damn.... so many choices... everyone always has their fair arguments also.. thats why i love forums!!! keep em coming!

Latency would be wonderful if they were consistent. Response time on my Dell 2408WFP is actually faster (through some visual testing and camera tests) than the response time on my SP2208WFP, despite the SP2208 being rated at 2 ms vs the 2408's 5 or 6ms. This is even with panels from the same manufacturer.

I purchased a Dell 22 Inch 2209WA for the time being, until I can get a good deal on a 24''. I searched through my gmail history for "BenQ", and found newegg had a 24hour sale back in August of 08' selling the BenQ G2400WD for $289.99+ freeshipping. WOW!

@Proximon's comment, the dell is even higher rated than the BenQ in the hardcore gaming section for LCD's on anandtech's guide

BUT, i just want to reiterate this dell is only temporary. I am still looking for a solid 24'' but seeing how the benQ was selling for a lot less 5 months ago makes me wonder :)

I use the g2400wd and it is awesome for gaming. I can't comment on the difference between that and a Dell for colors but for 300$ more for the Dell, I'll keep my BenQ :p

It all depends on how much you value color accuracy and viewing angle. The S-PVA panel in the Dell is noticeably superior, but it is definitely not worth the cash for some people (I'm picky though).
