GPU-CPU Bottleneck????

Hi all,


i have a smal (well not sure tbh problem)). when im playing a game (COD WAW, bf2, crysis, FC2 or any other) my FPS are always around 30-60 to 90FPS. now im not sure if its a CPU bottle neck or a GPU problem.


my specs:

Intel Core 2 quad Q6600 65NM G0 @ 2.4 ghz gonna try it @ 3.5 Ghz
Asus maximus Formula
Team Xtreem Dark 800 mhz 4 gig
Asus EAH4870X2 TOP 2 gig GDDR5 both cores : GPU 800Mhz memory 1000Mhz tested @ stock and the OC
Corsair XT750W
Scythe Mugen CPU cooler
Windows XP pro 32 bit
LG FLatron wide 20.1" (1680*1050) main screen
Acer AL1717 17" (1280*1024) secondary screen


might it be the CPU beeing a bottle neck that im beter of whit a Q9550 @ 2.83 or higher?


btw how big is the fabracation proces of Q9550 only 45NM ?

Perhaps you are expecting too much, no?

What FPS do you get in FC2 at 16 x 10 with ultra settings.

I just ran the small ranch benchmark and got 43min, 80max and 58 average.

If you run it yourself you could get an idea of what a clock boost would give you.

Yes, it is included with the game.

I am not sure why bf2 would be faster on your brothers machine even with the 400mhz difference.

Perhaps crossfire is causing the issues.

Ok so it is the medium ranch one.

Your system can't be performing that badly as it is better than mine.

Going to run it again as i get a major downspike near the end.

Oh and btw, shows what bloody use i am.

Don't know how it happened but my overclock has been reset, a bit worrying, so my test results are for my cpu at 2.83, not 3.4.

For you it shows that the systems perform pretty similar.

I don't think you are getting abnormal performance

Just ran the medium ranch with the 3.4ghz applied and can't say there was much change really.

Personally, i would just enjoy playing your favourite games and if things get unplayable, try a slight clockspeed bump.

Well, unless my own comp is screwed

Cleary you see that (1920*1200 4xAA ultra high) is higher settings than (1680*1050 8xAA very high)
if the cpu is 3.0 or 3.8 doesn’t rally mater

39fps is very low for a 4870x2.
