I have become mentally exhausted thinking about the following situation:

I do not own a tv. I have a computer coming in three days. I need a computer monitor. I need a TV.
I enjoy the practical concept of using one display for both functions.

which is better?...

use an LDC TV as both a TV and monitor

or

use an LCD Monitor as both a TV and monitor

The latter otherwise you'll have ghosting during games. Keep in mind you're going to need something around 24" or you're going to be annoyed by a small tv.
