210$?

4870, no competition. Or if you want Nvidia 260 GTX. Anything less won't justify your upgrade.

The 250 GTX, is just a 9800 GTX+, and the difference would be like going from a 9600 GT (which is around the power of 1 8800 GTS 320, but has more ram advantage)

You'd prob have more luck at finding a cheap 4870 than a 260 GTX.

I'd wait for a week, the 4890 is coming out and it should drive prices down:)

Good luck!

GTX 260 Core 216's have already begun to drop below $180 right now, and many 1GB versions of the 4870 can also be had around that price. Compare things to Q1 last year when you'd easily pay $200-250 for an 8800GT 512 and you're getting far more bang for your buck.

I'm also uncertain what it is that is making so many people think the 4890 is going to push the prices of these cards down. Since ATI cards typically follow suit numerically with performance (cough... 2K series... cough...), the upcoming 4890 should outperform a 4870 and we should expect it to cost a bit more for that performance. I don't think it'll make the 4870, or for that matter the GTX260, cost any less. I think it will be targeted at the GTX 280/285 in hopes of getting an ATI card's performance similar to (hopefully better than) that of a GTX 280/285 at a price just under those cards. That's what I'd shoot for. It just makes smart business sense to do it that way.

At least we shouldn't have to wait too long to find out.

Also, these are the exact same card models I'm considering replacing my 8800GT with. I honestly don't think I'd be disappointed with either, but since I'm awaiting an RMA, I don't know exactly what card eVGA is going to send me. They don't have any 8800GTs left, so I have to see what they send me before I decide. If I get a 9800GTX or GTX+, I won't be buying either.

This card has no reason not to push prices down, I remember when the 260 GTX and 4870 were both 300$ some time ago, and now they are going lower and lower:).

With the 4890 priced @ 240$ (around), and if the 280 GTX will match that price, it will again force down the 260s and 4870s down, since sooner or later, you can pay alittle extra and have a faster card like the 280 GTX or 285 GTX or 4890 or 275 GTX.

What I am amazingly amazd though is, I would've never dreamed that with 300$ or 240$ I can have a top of line competing card, this is basically as though I were to buy the 8800 Ultra for 300$ when it came out:) Amazing prices, and amazing time to be investing.

i predict this summer, we should see a boom in computer specs that ppl have.

I bought new Ati 4870 1 GB for 118 £ which is around 86 $ I remeber days when price of 8800 GTX was very high and its stay like that for very long time, now u see new cards with price dropping like rain in tropical forest.
