I was wondering which one would be overall better (specifications, what it can support, overclocking). I still can not deduct from the gigabyte site if it natively supports DDR3 1600 MHz or if you have to overclock to have anything higher than 1333MHz. **this is NOT the P6T deluxe, this IS the P6T** ($AU): Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5: $379 Asus P6t: $296 Is the Gigabyte board worth the extra $80? Thanks heaps guys.

Asus and Gigabyte are both solid motherboard makers. Both of the boards have the X58 chipset. Past that, look for the features that you need and will use. SLI? # of pci-e slots? SAS controller? etc... There are not that many differences.

I hear the higher the memory speed in X58 boards with i7's the easier it will be to overclock, it was said that to get anything past 3.2GHz u will need 1600MHz ram. This may be a problem becuase the Asus Board only supports up to 1333MHz ram

Not true. My Asus P6T deluxe is using Patriot 1600 ram with an oc to 3.5 changing only the BCLK to 170.

So u didn't have to overclock the ram to get it to 1600MHz? becuase the asus site said that anything above 1333MHz could only be achieved by overclock unless i have been mistaken.

The speed the ram runs at makes negligible difference in real applications(like 1-3%). Cpu-Z says DRAM frequency=510 mhz
FSB:dram 2:6 timings are 4 6 6 18 1t. I let all the ram and other settings default. 3.5 is good enough for me.

So your running it at 1785MHz, but that is overclocked. Can u put it to auto and see what frequency you get?

Ok I have been doing a lot of reading and there appears to be many issues arising with the gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 in terms of memory and stability etc. I have decided to go with the Asus P6T. Thankyou everyone for you help it has been much appreciated and not gone unnoticed :)

All bios parameters are default or auto, including ram. All I changed was bclk from 133 to 170.
I think the ram is still operating at 1.5 volts, which is not overclocked.
How do you get 1785 mhz? 510 x 2= 1040, or 510 x 3 = 1530. I really don't know which to multiply by, to get the proper speed.
